When I was little, the Mt Coot-tha Botanic Gardens meant clipboards and pencils, travelling buddies, packed lunches, hats and a lot of walking. We used to go for school excursions there all the time, and it ranked second in location after the Museum. I remember noticing how the different grasses we sat on created different patterns on my legs, winning at being the closest to a water dragon and coming to the painful realisation that cocoa trees don't actually grow chocolate bars. It'd been a long time since I'd last been, those kind of expeditions become sadly nonexistent in senior high school. However, a friend and I recently went on a last minute decision when we found out that the cafe we had planned on going to was shut.
Best last minute decision of all time.
I'd forgotten how much I enjoyed meandering through the little paths between all the plants. I discovered a new appreciation for it altogether, it's become one of my favourite haunts in Brisbane. I went again today with another friend of mine, and it was bliss. If you ever get the chance, I highly recommend giving it a visit. There's just too much green-goodness to pass up!
